Color With Complexion and Natural Beauty

I️ think consumers as a whole forget the beauty of themselves and what natural elements they posses that truly effect the entirety of style, fashion, and color. We compare ourselves to next person in line, wondering, "why can't I️ look that good, or be that pretty." The mindset needs to change to "how can I️ help the beauty I️ was given standout for the sake of myself confidence and self love."

Ponder this...

We all have a favorite color but do we ever sit down to realize why we are so compelled to it?I️ tend to turn towards yellow and blues. Why? Well, I️ can say, yellow has a happy carefree feel to it and blue is clam and collective. But in the sake of fashion and style, I️ appreciate yellow because it works well with my dirty blond, basically brown, hair color and allows the complexion of my skin to standout. Making myself and my natural presence the center piece of my outfit. Blue on the other hand, causes my eyes to pop. Growing up, I️ was always told I️ had beautiful blue eyes, but I️ was never able to embrace this quality because I️ was too focused on what I️ did not have and I️ leaned on my insecurities so much I️ forgot the elements of beauty I️ was given.

Learning to love what I️ saw as faults, allowed me to notice and appreciate the natural gifts of beauty I️ have.

As a consumer it is smart to learn what complements your complexion and natural beauty so you always have a "go to" color. My go to color is either black or blue; I️ have just enough tint of tan to where black works; though black is pretty universal in the shades of complexion. Blue is a go to because, again, it highlights my eyes. It is also good to understand what colors are not as appealing for your skin tone. I️ tend to stay away from basically any reds, unless it's a holiday, and even then, I️ am more compelled to wear a forest green. Red is not my color because, in the winter especially, I️ tend to be on the pale end of complexion. Red tends to make me illuminate a little more and not in a good way; it hides the natural highlights of my hair, and dull my eyes. Red would look incredibly striking on someone with a darker complexion, but for me it's not my color and I️ am absolutely okay with that.

When I️ say I️ express myself through style, I️ do not mean I️ hide behind my clothes; I️ allow colors, styles, and pattern express the element of who I️ am. Color brings out my natural elements, style allows me to carry confidence, and pattern help me express my personality or ora I️'m feeling for the day.

Here are some tips using celeb examples...

Lupita Nyong'o takes color to a whole new level. Complementary colors are her best friend. Reds, yellows, and blues pop against her dark complexion. These bright colors do not over step her natural beauty in any way; her beautiful and striking features allow these colors to flow with her complexion.

Rihanna in blue and black... stunning. Her Anti album pictures were so compelling because the black and denim blue allowed her golden bronze complexion to stand out. She balance the darkness of black with the bronze of her complexion. Blue lets Rihanna glow; it's just the right color to where her features and skin tone actually balance the look as a whole.

Next, someone we all know and love, Anne Hathaway. Lets be honesty, she can pull off almost anything, but her fair complexion and dark features allow dark colors to work so well. From black, dark green, to navy blue, she's hard to beat.

Mila Kunis, my favorite from The 70' Show, looks amazing in pinks, reds and neutrals. Her olive skin, dark features, and green eyes offer a beautiful canvas for these colors to pop. Her tan complexion allows neutrals to stand out and not blend in. Cream and gold work extremely well because they offer shades that emphasize her complexion, working with it rather than against it. A deep red is extremely compelling on Mila because the color does not out shine her. In many cases we see celebs wear colors that are so striking against their complexion we forget to look at who's wearing it.

Understand this; we should rock clothes, they should not rock us.

Try to avoid something that standout over your natural beauty because someone saying "you look amazing in that dress" can be different from "I️ love that dress." The first one is, that dress is amazing because it looks so good on you, and the other may mean, that dress is amazing but it would look better on me.

Lets keep going...

We all know Amanda Seyfried from classic movies like Mama Mia, Mean Girls, and so may more. She has a fair skin tone, blond hair, and green eyes. She rocks yellows and all pastels because her hair and skin tone highlight the color well; light on light is generally the way to go.

With a few examples and pointers I️ hope you see my point. You can wear any color your heart desires because there is no wrong or right. But when shopping for a formal dress, or deciding between two different colored sweaters, think about what colors complement your complexion and natural features. It is important to know the beautiful elements you posses so you have control in displaying them. Let your natural beauty flourish because self shaming and comparison is out dated.

With endless love and from yours truly,

HB
